What is CEMWOQ?

The Crystal Engineering and Emerging Materials Workshop of Ontario and Quebec (CEMWOQ) is a recent tradition in Canada, bringing together academic, industrial researchers, students and professionals to explore the cutting edge of solid-state chemistry, materials and crystal engineering. The workshop is aimed towards creating links and open, relaxed discussions between researchers from Canada and abroad. Accessibility to students is of outstanding significance to us, so there are no registration fees, and we encourage oral and poster presentations from graduate and undergraduate students!

CEMWOQ-5 will take place from July 16th to 19th, 2018 at McGill University in downtown Montreal, Qc.

Engineering the Solid State for Sustainability and Green Chemistry

This year’s CEMWOQ will focus on the overwhelming importance of creating sustainable processes, materials and environmentally-friendly modes for chemical synthesis and manufacturing. We believe that the solid state could hold an answer for many challenges in creating a the “green” and sustainable future for chemistry:

    • new designer materials for energy storage and generation
    • new solvent-free methodologies for clean synthesis
    • innovative uses of solid-state reactivity for processing and valorizing biomass
    • clean solutions for pharmaceutical synthesis and form discovery
    • new designs for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical solid form
    • the use of light in clean synthesis

...and more. These are just some of the topics we will discuss at CEMWOQ-5!
Before all, CEMWOQ-5 is meant to create new links and collaborations, provide a venue where students can interact with experts in science and engineering, and also be fun and relaxing for attendees.
